Contraception

Whether you are new to womanhood or new to motherhood, family planning is key to reproductive health, managing certain conditions and preparing for pregnancy. Adolescents, young females and maturing women can all benefit from family planning and contraception. The goal of Dr Motsema's family planning consultations is to provide choices regarding the timing of pregnancies, and the management of unintended, abnormal and risky pregnancies.

Dr Motsema offers a broad array of contraception options to help women select the best method for their needs, including:

Birth Control Pills

Birth control pills are the most common form of contraception.

IUD's (intrauterine devices)

IUD stands for "intrauterine device." Shaped like a "T", an IUD fits inside your uterus. IUDs prevent pregnancy by stopping sperm from reaching and fertilizing eggs. Today's IUDs are generally quite safe, effective and long-lasting for most women.

Contraceptive injections

A contraceptive injection is a shot that contains hormones- either progestin only or a combination of progestin and estrogen. The injection prevents your body from releasing eggs. You need one shot, once every month or once every three months from an Ob-Gyn.

Sterilization

If you're sure that you don't want to have children at any point in the future, you may consider sterilization.

Women can choose from a few sterilization options, including tubal ligation (getting your tubes tied) or the Essure procedure which permanently blocks the fallopian tubes.
